Durack School follows the Australian Curriculum V9 - Mathematics and the Learning Through Doing (LTD) pedagogical structure. Mathematics is taught in all classrooms daily for 60 minutes – 300 minutes per week. All Learning Through Doing lessons have an in depth professional learning component to upskill the teacher on the lesson they are planning and the questions that could/should be asked by students.
All Mathematics lessons start with a 5-minute warm up of quick recall – i.e. counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, number of the day, number patterns. Followed by a LTD lesson. All Learning Through Doing lessons have a flexible three-part pedagogical structure that may be spread across multiple learning sessions:
I Do - Whole Class activity - Structured, hands-on, high impact use of visual mathematical models to support learning
We Do - Hands-on activity - where students use materials to further investigate the maths
You Do - Independent activity - that is directly related to the lesson and can be used for formative assessment or for follow up
Reflection – related to the lesson taught
