The aim of the Physical Education program is for students to develop the skills, knowledge and resilience to participate confidently in physical activity, demonstrating teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship.
Our Physical Education program helps students build confidence, develop essential skills, and enjoy being active.
In the early years, students develop fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, and balancing. They learn to take turns and share equipment while participating safely and respectfully with others.
Through participating in team games and modified sports, students refine their fundamental movement skills. They learn the rules, skills and techniques for a variety of sports. They work on developing teamwork and sportsmanship skills, and learn to make thoughtful decisions and solve problems while playing safely. These experiences help students improve their physical abilities while also building resilience, cooperation, and a strong sense of fair play.
The program promotes physical growth, social skills, teamwork, and positive attitudes toward health and wellbeing. It encourages inclusivity, enjoyment, and collaboration, ensuring every child experiences the rewards of movement and working with others.
Sports Day is a highlight of our school calendar, bringing students together to take part in a wide range of physical activities and team challenges, with a focus on participation and fostering a sense of community rather than on competition. Alongside athletics-inspired challenges, the program includes a variety of engaging events designed to promote teamwork, enjoyment, and inclusivity. Students compete in three houses; Argyle (Red), Ivanhoe (Yellow), and Lissadell (Green), earning points through both individual and team efforts, helping to build school spirit and friendly camaraderie. The day encourages resilience, active participation, and skill development, giving every student the opportunity to celebrate health, teamwork, and community.
Our Year 5 and 6 students have the exciting opportunity to attend a variety of School of Sport Education NT inter-school gala days throughout the school year. These events allow students to represent our school, develop their skills across a variety of sports and enjoy friendly competition with peers from other schools. In the past, our students have participated in gala days for soccer, touch football, netball, AFL and basketball. Participation encourages teamwork, sportsmanship and confidence, while providing valuable experiences within the wider sporting community.
Our school is fortunate to work with SEDA College to occasionally host skill-development clinics led by their students. These clinics provide unique opportunities for our students to enhance their sporting skills, build confidence and participate in a supportive and engaging environment. These sessions help students develop teamwork, resilience and a love of physical activity, reflecting our school’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded, confident learners.
Our school is fortunate to participate in the Sporting Schools program, which provides students with access to a diverse range of sporting experiences. Depending on the program, sessions may be delivered by visiting specialist coaches or by our teaching staff. This initiative offers structured opportunities for students to further develop their skills, teamwork, and enjoyment of physical activity.
